The Necessity of Faith

I – Conscious beings require a sense of meaning and moral orientation in order to persist and flourish.

II – In the absence of meaning and moral orientation, individuals and societies become increasingly fractious, unstable, and self‑destructive.

III – A shared basis for meaning and morality is desirable, as it enables cooperation, mutual understanding, and collective persistence.

IV – Science, while essential for understanding the principles of existence, does not by itself provide a sufficient foundation for meaning or morality.

V – Society, while capable of shaping norms and expectations, does not necessarily provide a stable or coherent foundation for meaning or morality.

VI – Faith, by its nature, provides structured systems of meaning and morality that guide individuals and communities toward coherence and purpose.

VII – The meaning and morality articulated through faith can serve as interpretive frameworks through which the insights of science and society may be understood and integrated.

VIII – Those Who Muse affirm that humanity must draw upon all available sources of meaning and morality including faith, science, philosophy, and collective human experience in order to persist and advance.
